A rogue shooter inflicted tragedy at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday, and the Miami Heat is using this as an opportunity to say guns should disappear.
Two were killed and six injured when 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a local law enforcement officer, opened fire on the FSU campus. Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil called the event a “heinous” crime and said that his department’s goal will be to prevent something like this from ever happening again.
"We will do everything we can to prosecute and send a message to folks that this will never be tolerated here in Leon County," McNeil said.
At least 6 people have been injured during a shooting today at Florida State University. Pray for all those affected by this act of evil, including the first responders working to help those at the scene. https://t.co/L6Ak6U2qby

Unfortunately, stuff like this happens in a broken world, and we should do everything reasonable to prevent it. However, that does not mean that Americans shouldn’t have guns. They are tools that can be used for evil - like with the FSU situation - or for good and to protect your family. They're also protected as a constitutional right that has existed since the inception of our country.
But the Heat - Miami’s NBA franchise - sees things differently.
Remember, the NBA believes its okay for men to try to be women, for women to kill unborn children, and that China doesn’t commit any human rights violations - at least none worthy of the NBA pulling out of their multi-million-dollar partnership. But when it comes to guns, at least one NBA team thinks they're too dangerous to be allowed.
Here’s the statement the team released on the matter:

Is the violence unnecessary and senseless? Of course. Should students be able to prepare for finals without worrying if they or their friends will die? Absolutely.
Will enacting “reform” - which in leftists' minds means gun grabs and Second Amendment violations - solve the problem? No.
Guns can be used for their intended purpose or to harm people, just like cars, knives, stones, and chainsaws. Getting rid of guns will not solve the problem, because all that will do is make it harder for responsible people to exercise their Second Amendment right.
A statement like this isn’t unexpected from an NBA team, but its tiresome and unproductive.
