The San Jose State University (SJSU) women’s volleyball team has a transgender player named Blaire Fleming on its roster. Formerly "Brayden" Fleming, he's has been doing remarkably well for the Spartans, which should come as no surprise given that he has a biological advantage over his competitors.
Being that he's a guy, and they're...not.
Thankfully, five of SJS’s opponents - Boise State, Southern Utah, Utah State, Wyoming, and Nevada Reno - have forfeited matches against the Spartans rather than pit their female players against a male. Nevada's team cited a lack of fairness, which is both reasonable and correct (the school’s higher-ups threw the team under the bus after the fact, but at least the team made the right call).
You would think that this growing trend from SJSU’s conference opponents - all of which play in the Mountain West Conference, except for Southern Utah - would make the MWC want to address the problem. But alas, that’s not the case.

MWC commissioner Gloria Nevarez lamented over the situation - not because one of her schools has a male on its women’s volleyball team, but because the situation is getting bad press.
"It breaks my heart because they're human beings, young people, student-athletes on both sides of this issue that are getting a lot of national negative attention," Nevarez said. "It just doesn't feel right to me."
What shouldn’t "feel right" is the fact that SJSU is ignoring fair play for its opponents by trying to get an unfair advantage through Fleming. If Nevarez had the nerve to step in and call out SJSU for their nonsense, then this situation wouldn’t have happened. Then, and only then, would the MWC not get any “negative attention.”
Nevarez should follow the example set by the Bishop Brady girl’s soccer team. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
