Before sports got infected by the deadly disease of wokeness, it used to be one of the few areas of culture where people would often feel united. While many people have forgotten that’s what the purpose of sports is, there are still people who remember this core truth.
Donald Trump appeared on the “Let’s Go!” podcast yesterday, which is hosted by former NFL coaching great Bill Belichick, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, Peter King and Jim Gray. While they discussed many things on the episode, the best part came when he discussed what sports do for the American people. He highlighted the unifying nature of sports, and how it helps reveal people’s character as well.
"Sports really brings people together," he said. "And you learn about people. We learn about them, and they learn about us, and they learn how to live life. I learned a lot from things in sports. You know, it's mostly the golf stuff, little tennis, but the golf stuff … You have to be able to handle pressure. There are people that can't play in."

Ah, what a refreshing perspective. I personally am not a fan of political messaging in any capacity in sports. However, progressives brought the fight to sports, and conservatives have therefore had every right to try to claim it for themselves.
But still, don’t you miss the days when you could just watch a football game and not have to worry about whether or not you’ll be told you’re a racist if you don’t support Black Lives Matter? Or when players weren’t demonized for not supporting the toxic LGBT agenda? I certainly do.
Sports are meant to unify, and our society is better off when they do.
