A columnist from USA Today wants the NFL to defy Donald Trump’s efforts to wipe out DEI and double down on enabling discrimination.
In an opinion piece published on Monday titled “Is NFL caving to anti-DEI movement? The optics don't look good,” author Jarrett Bell explained that he is rather upset that Trump is doing everything he can to stop the spread of "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" - an ideology that discriminates against certain people groups - calling it “good.”
“President Donald Trump's administration has waged an all-out war on DEI. More than 30 states have passed or introduced legislation that eliminates or restricts DEI initiatives. So many companies in corporate America have buckled and rolled back DEI commitments,” Bell noted.
What’s Bell’s point? This is all great news. Woke B.S. is dying off rapidly, and most sensical people are happy about that.

But Bell here wants the NFL to defy the president - which is bold (and stupid) advice - and double down on any and all programs that promote DEI.
“Now is the perfect time for the socially-conscious NFL to keep its accelerator program front and center (even with tweaks) as a clear statement that doubles down on its DEI pledge,” Bell wrote.
He then when on a long and rambling rants about how several NFL owners don’t have the stomach to promote diversity and that they needed to stand up to a president who is a “bully” (his words, not mine).
Counterpoint: why not encourage the NFL to return to sanity? DEI never brings about the diversity, equity, and inclusion it promises. Instead, it favors people based on skin color, sexual identity, and what degree of (perceived) oppression you’ve faced. It has no place in a country that fights to give people of all backgrounds an equal opportunity at getting what they want.
The NFL is finally realizing that, and that’s great news.
