A federal judge is temporarily blocking a new Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks.
The Hill is reporting that U.S District Judge Carlton Reeves granted a temporary restraining order on Tuesday.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) signed the bill banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy on Monday.
"As I have repeatedly said, I want Mississippi to be the safest place in America for an unborn child," Bryant tweeted earlier this month.
The bill, known as the “Gestational Age Act,” was only a law for a matter of hours before the restraining order was issued.
Dr. Sacheen Carr-Ellis of the Jackson Women’s Health Organization said in court papers that a woman 15 weeks or more pregnant was already scheduled for a Tuesday afternoon abortion.
