Remember Imane Khelif, the boxer who was allowed to pummel a woman in the 2024 Paris Olympics after previously being disqualified from the World Championships for failing to prove he’s female?

World Boxing has just barred him from participating in the female category until he, once again, undergoes genetic testing. The announcement is part of their new requirement that all competitors must take a gender test, in order to prevent a Paris repeat.

To be fair, through no fault of his own it seems, Khelif was raised believing he’s a girl. He sadly suffers from a genetic disorder called 5-alpha reductase deficiency, which hinders the sexual development of biological males and often causes boys to appear female until they reach puberty.

His condition was revealed in November, after both the International Olympics Committee (IOC) and legacy media muffled the legitimate suspicions many had for months that Khelif was not, actually, a biological female. In fact, the IOC had tossed out Khelif’s initial test results conducted by the International Boxing Association (IBA), which showed elevated testosterone levels and “XY” chromosomes. Instead, they banned the association from overseeing the Olympic tournament before their Paris competition, and included Khelif in the women's category based on his having a "female" designator on his passport.

Khelif was therefore given the green light to box women, despite the IBA’s objections, and despite the concerns from many in the public over not only the fairness, but physical safety risks of letting a male into the ring to fight women.

But World Boxing, which was created to replace the IBA, has taken the same skeptical stance. It seems the Olympics Committee’s efforts to let biological males continue sweeping women's categories have come full circle.
