Legendary Rocker Tom Petty Dead at 66

Rock legend Tom Petty, of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and the Travelling Wilburys, died late Monday night after being found unconscious in his Malibu home early Monday morning. Petty was found in full cardiac arrest, according to TMZ. He was 66-years-old.

Petty was known for a huge catalog of hits over a career that spanned four decades, including songs such as "Breakdown," Free Fallin'," "Last Dance with Mary Jane," "Into the Great Wide Open" and many others.

"It’s shocking, crushing news," Petty's friend and Traveling Wilburys bandmate Bob Dylan told Rolling Stone. "I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him."

According to Fox News:

Tony Dimitriades, the band manager, announced the singer’s death in a statement. The legendary singer was found in cardiac arrest in the early hours of Monday morning at his home in Malibu, Calif.

Petty was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived, Dimitriades said. He died at 11:40 p.m.
