Life Imitates Art: Elliot Page’s Character Transitioning in Netflix’s 'Umbrella Academy'

The actress formerly known as Ellen Page came out as transgender on Twitter last year, stating, "I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot."  

Still not sure how someone's pronouns can be both he and they.

Page has starred in the Netflix series "Umbrella Academy" since 2019, a year before her real life transition. When Page came out, some fans were in an uproar since Page would continue to play "cisgender lesbian" Vanya Hargreeves on the series. Others have argued that it's okay for transgender actors to play cisgender roles because trans actors typically lose out on roles for being trans.

Fast forward to 2022, and Page is transitioning again - this time on screen.

On Tuesday, Page tweeted out an upcoming change to her character for "Umbrella Academy's third season airing in June, becoming "Viktor Hargreeves."

Not much is known about Vanya Hargreeves's transition in the show, but one would guess that this would become a huge part of season three.
