At the school board meeting for Loudoun County Public Schools earlier this week, board decided not to remove certain sexually explicit books from the library that parents have expressed concern over.

The board claims those books can remain as long as teachers assign them as required reading for class.

The school board does require parental notification of instructional materials with sexually explicit content. But notification is not necessary for checking a book out of the library.

“But the really egregious ones, yeah, they're probably not assigned as part of a classroom instruction program, but they are in the classroom libraries, they are in the school library,” Loudoun County parent Ian Prior tells MRCTV.

“Now there's a challenge process where parents can challenge these books, but unfortunately, unless they're able to inspect the books ahead of time, they don't know what to challenge other than, I guess going through the library catalog and picking books at random and challenging them.

You know, if Loudoun County Public Schools really wanted transparency, they really wanted to involve parents, then they would have allowed parents to inspect books in libraries and they would have allowed an opt out for books in libraries and classroom libraries. But we know that's not what they want to do. They want to do the bare minimum so they can continue with their agenda.”
