Commissioner Robert McDowell of the FCC spoke to conservative bloggers today at the Heritage Foundation, and Eyeblast.tv asked him how much power the FCC should have over private companies given the mandates imposed on the newly merged Sirius-XM Radio. McDowell, who voted for the merger, said he has a "problem with highway thievery," but the answer should not be government mandates on newly merged companies. The Sirius-XM merger, approved by a 3-2 FCC vote, took more than 16 months to complete, and while those commissioners who dissented have cited concerns of creating a "monopoly," McDowell said consumers have many choices in music, news and other entertainment. The video of the briefing is posted on Eyeblast.tv.
