Calling a Shooter a 'Thug' is Apparently a Racist 'Dog Whistle' Now

The word “thug” has joined Pepe the Frog, pit bulls and Thor’s hammer as a racist “dog whistle,” apparently. Funny how the left are the only ones who ever these mysterious "dog whistles."

After the horrific shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade, Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) said that “[w]e can't let some thugs just take over and ruin what happened.”

Sounds reasonable, right? Well, not according to Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas (D).

Despite saying that he had “respect” for Parson, Lucas spoke with Steve Kraske, host of local radio show “Up to Date,” about Parson's comment.

“I disagree strongly with how he would describe that situation," Lucas said. "I certainly do think this was criminal activity. It was lawlessness, and I think that that's troubling. But ‘thugs’ is a dog whistle in the most classic sense.”

Seeing as law enforcement initially hesitated on releasing the faces of the suspects, I wonder what led Lucas to believe that Parson was referring to a particular race when he called the shooters “thugs,” especially considering the race of the subjects weren't made public at the time of Lucas' assessment of Parson's comment. Could it be those implicit biases that the left keeps telling us about?
