Nicolle Wallace, host of Deadline White House on NBC, recently asked presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke the toughest question he has received in his long political career: how can the media better cover his campaign?

“Play media critic,” Wallace told O'Rourke on Friday. “What can we do better as those of us trying to cover your candidacies from very far away from where the first votes will be cast in Iowa and New Hampshire?”

“It’s a good question,” O’Rourke said, “It just is what it is.”

O’Rourke also added that he would prefer the media ask him questions about issues that connect to his base.

“How do I guarantee that my child’s going to a world-class public school by ensuring we pay public school teachers a living wage?" he suggested. "How do we confront climate change before it’s too late?”

O’Rourke continued by saying, “It’s very infrequent that I am asked about one of those issues -- present company excluded -- by members of the media, especially when we’re on the trail.”

“I’ll leave you with some free advice,” Wallace responded. “Grab Garrett (Hakke), who is NBC’s correspondent on your campaign, and tell him what’s on your mind. If you don’t like the coverage, you can change it. You're the candidate.”

So nice of her to offer.
