The NBA is a collection of 6’10” ethical midgets. That’s not news, perhaps, but it is worth repeating. All the social justice posturing and activism, the angry left-wing coaches lecturing Americans – all just underscores the moral vacuum Commissioner Stern et al occupy in their lucrative partnership with the Chinese Communist Party.

Exhibit #4,738: Fox reports that The Brooklyn Nets’ Ben Simmons “donated a basketball court to a town in China’s Guizhou Province last week.”

Well that’s nice.

"I’m very excited and happy to announce the court donation," Simmons said. "Deep thanks to Ambassador Huang Ping and Guizhou government. I first visited China to play basketball when I was 16 years old, and then again as an NBA player. I always enjoyed visiting the people, and the fans are always so welcoming, and the love for basketball there is incredible”

The love for ethnic and religious minorities, not so much. Especially the Uyghurs, a Muslim minority that the CCP is doing its best to wipe out, according to the State Department and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The Ambassador Huang Ping to whom Simmons is so grateful is the head of China’s New York City Consulate – not a position China bestows on an unreliable man. And boy is he reliable. He’s called his masters in the CCP a  "great party."  As for the Uyghurs:

"There are lots of lies here, fabricated by some people with their own political agenda," Huang said in an August 2021 interview, denying the existence of genocide and internment camps targeting Uyghurs. "As I said, there's no genocide, not a single evidence to prove that there's a genocide or something there. It's just a slandering."

Oh. But these camps …

"I see these centers as a campus, rather than camps," he said. "We get these people there to be educated. And this has been quite effective in terms of countering terrorism and in de-radicalization. Up to now, there has not been a single terrorist attack in exactly four years."

So being in the camps is like going to college  with all sorts of cool extracurricular activities, like “rape, torture, forced labor, brainwashing and forced sterilization,” according to leaked documents.

So Huang Ping helped facilitate Simmon’s shiny new hoops court. He’s also been on quite a PR run lately, according to Fox. making appearances and getting gifts from the Nets on the court for the Chinese New Year. China is the NBA’s biggest market, and the CCP it’s closest partner. So the league has learned to be as reliable as Huang Ping, silencing dissenters in its ranks and trotting out superstars to flack for its relationship.

Good business, lousy ethics.
