It’s possible that that hoax perpetrator extraordinaire Jussie Smollett might’ve gotten one thing right in his made-up story — Chicago might be “MAGA Country”…kind of.

It turns out that while Vice President Kamala Harris beat President-elect Donald Trump overall in Chicago, it wasn’t the typical beating Republicans get in Cook County.

In fact, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Trump actually beat Harris in the “41st Ward on the Far Northwest Side of the city.”

According to the Sun-Times:

In Chicago, Trump jumped to 22.01% of the city vote in 2024, up from 12.41% of the city vote in 2016, according to unofficial returns. The 41st Ward on the Far Northwest Side of the city is the only one where Trump won more than half the votes on Tuesday.

In Illinois, Trump’s statewide vote grew to 45.3% this year, up from 38.76% in 2016, according to unofficial returns.

As someone who's a native of Cook County, I find it absolutely amazing that Trump did as well as what’s being reported. Heck, Republicans don’t even run for mayor anymore because of the stranglehold that Democrats have on the city of Chicago.

The Sun-Times also noted that Trump’s performance is the best a Republican has done in the “Land of Lincoln” since 1992.

“In terms of percentage, Trump bested every Republican running for president in Illinois since 1992, according to unofficial returns as reported by The New York Times,” the Sun-Times wrote.

So, credit to Smollett for being ahead of the curve and crediting the “Second City” with a possible new moniker.
