Apparently, once was not enough. Despite his claims that he’s done an amazing job for the state of California, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is reportedly facing yet another recall attempt.
A group called Rescue California began an effort to recall Newsom, and on Monday, the governor was “served with a notice of intent to recall,” according to KCRA. Newsom has 10 days to respond.
The campaign director of Rescue California, Anne Dunsmore, spoke about the reasons for a second effort to remove Newsom from his seat of power.
“Gavin Newsom has abandoned the state to advance his Presidential ambitions, leaving behind a $73 Billion budget deficit and a public safety, immigration and education crisis,” Dunsmore said. “California needs a full-time governor who is fully focused on the serious problems the state and its citizens are facing. This may be our last opportunity to rescue and restore our state, while we highlight for the rest of the country the destruction Newsom has left in his wake.”

Newsom faced his first recall in 2021, fending off Republican challenger Larry Elder — or as the Los Angeles Times framed him, “The Black Face of White Supremacy.”
Fervor over Newsom’s leadership — or lack thereof — began to snowball when he placed COVID restrictions on Californians while ignoring them himself, even being spotted having dinner at one of the most expensive restaurants in California, The French Laundry.
