Despite whatever you might think of a certain luminary in our public sphere, you have to at least admire those that have the courage to straight up say the things that others might be afraid to for fear of retribution. But, when you’re someone who has “FU money,” like Tesla founder and X CEO Elon Musk, it’s a little easier to speak your mind unfettered by fear of reprisal.

Early Wednesday morning, Musk reposted a compilation video of Vice President Kamala Harris speaking over and over about the difference between “equality” and “equity.” Sure, she got the meaning of “equality” wrong, but she sure knows how she wants to apply “equity.”

Harris aims to not only have everyone “end up in the same place,” essentially giving regular folks a ceiling as to their future potential, but she also wants the government to help those that don’t start out in the same place the ability to catch up.

For context, true equality means having equal opportunities regardless of identity. Equity means that everyone gets an equal outcome, or in other words, a proverbial glass ceiling that they’ll never be allowed to break through.

For his part, Musk added his two cents to the repost of the video in question.

“Kamala is quite literally a communist,” Musk wrote. “She wants not merely equal opportunity, but equal outcomes.”

Many are making the connection between leftists call for equity and one of the architects of communism, Karl Marx.

For even further context, Wai Wah Chin, an adjunct fellow at the Manhattan Institute, wrote the following for Real Clear Education in February of 2023:

Equity has many variants, but essentially, equity aims for equality of outcomes, ruling in favor of groups based on overlapping, or “intersectional” oppressions – in diametric opposition to our treasured principle of equality, which aims for equality of rights for individuals.

This just rehashes communism’s slogan, “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs,” which dates back to before Karl Marx. Equity, in this context, demands that we confiscate and redistribute, all while employing discrimination to achieve its ends.
