On Tuesday, an interview was released featuring former President and current Republican nominee for president Donald Trump on the “Lex Fridman Podcast.” The talk lasted a little over 45 minutes and covered a wide range of topics, which saw Trump in one of his more candid conversations in recent memory.

Obviously, Trump and Fridman spoke about the current election cycle and the state of politics, both abroad and domestically. But, it’s when Trump spoke openly about the importance of religion to the strength of the U.S. that seems most noteworthy.

“I think our country’s missing a lot of religion,” Trump told Fridman towards the end of the discussion. “I think it really was a much better place with religion. It was almost a guide. To a certain extent, it was a guide. You want to be good to people. Without religion, there are no guardrails. I’d love to see us get back to religion, more religion in this country.”

It’s possible that Trump’s call for “more religion” stems from decades of secular thought prevailing in spaces like the media, entertainment and politics.

Another tidbit from the interview that’s of note is when Fridman asked Trump about the Epstein list and whether or not that will see the light of day in the future despite it being shrouded in darkness since the death of financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019.

“Now, [the assassination of late President John F.] Kennedy is interesting cause it’s so many years ago,” Trump said. “They do that [keep files classified] for danger too, because you know, it endangers certain people, et cetera, et cetera. So Kennedy is very different from the Epstein thing. But yeah, I’d be inclined to do the Esptein [list]. I’d have no problem with it.”

“That’s great to hear,” Fridman responded.
