Even if you’re a power-hungry, communist China-aspiring authoritarian like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, you can’t just go around making unsubstantiated claims against your ideological counterparts — especially when you’re under oath.
Clinical psychologist and societal commentator Dr. Jordan Peterson is reportedly contemplating legal action against Trudeau for comments he made on Wednesday during a public hearing concerning foreign interference.
“We've recently seen that RT [Russian state-controlled network] is currently funding bloggers and other YouTube personalities of the right, such as Jordan Peterson,” Trudeau claimed. “Other names that are well known, Tucker Carlson as well, in order to amplify messages that are destabilizing democracies.”
However, as noted by Newsweek, “Trudeau did not provide evidence for the claim and Newsweek has been unable to independently verify it.” The outlet also reported that Carlson has denied all allegations of the kind.
As for Peterson, he the Canadian outlet National Post on Thursday that Trudeau’s claims are baseless and that the prime minister “should have done [his] bloody homework” before opening his mouth.
“It’s a very serious accusation,” Peterson said. “You should have done your bloody homework and if you’re going to make accusations, you should have at least got them right. I don’t think it’s reasonable for the prime minister of the country to basically label me a traitor and I don’t find it amusing.”

Trudeau has made a career, particularly in recent years, of going after opponents of his narratives, as evidenced by his freezing of truckers' bank accounts during the COVID pandemic when they stood up in protest against his draconian measures.
Peterson understands going against the government is often a losing battle, saying that it’s frequently a “losing game.”
Peterson is weighing his options, knowing that the right thing would be to hold Trudeau accountable for his actions, while at the same time acknowledging that defamation lawsuits against world leaders are costly and possibly a detriment to his family.
“I’ve been talking to my family about (whether) I have a moral obligation to go after him for defamation,” Peterson added. “He’s not like my neighbour, he’s the prime minister.”
Time will tell if Peterson moves ahead with possible litigation against Trudeau. But, Peterson isn’t being quiet about his disdain for Trudeau’s alleged defamation.
