Some socialist tongue-chewing politician in France suggested on Sunday that the U.S. should give back the Statue of Liberty to France because “apparently you despise her.”
“Give us back the Statue of Liberty,” Place Publique Party founder Raphael Glucksmann said. “It was our gift to you. But apparently, you despise her, so she will be happy here with us.”

In response, White Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed who she called an “unnamed, low-level French” politician’s comments, according to Fox News. Basically, Leavitt put Glucksmann and the French in their place by reminding them where they would be, liberty-wise, if it weren’t for the U.S.

“My advice to that unnamed, low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now,” Leavitt said with a smile.
