Regardless of sport, there are some players that you can just tell are having a great time playing their sport because of their love for the game and their humility in understanding that they’re living their dream.

But it’s also an added intangible when a player like that recognizes that their talents were given to them through not only hard work but endowed by their Creator — and I’m not talking about their parents.

Cleveland Browns journeyman quarterback Jameis Winston seems to be one of those players.

During the latter half of his college career at Florida State through his transition into the NFL, "Famous Jameis" Winston was seen by some as a troublesome individual based on a run-in with the law.

But, if we go by what we saw and heard before Thursday evening’s contest between the last-place Browns and the visiting, first-place Pittsburgh Steelers, Winston seemed like a kid on Christmas who recognizes the “reason for the season” — the Lord.

During his pre-game interview, Winston was both pumped and giddy at the prospect of being able to do what he was about to in the setting he was about to do it in.

“You have said, ‘You don’t become a Brown until you beat the Steelers,” the interviewer said before asking her question. “What will it take tonight?”

“The horse is prepared for battle,” Winston said, beginning his response, “but victory comes from the Lord. So, I’m depending on the Lord.”

The interviewer then followed up by listing the variables in the weather that both teams would have to deal with throughout the game before asking her last question.

“How will that [the weather] impact your ability to throw the ball?” asked the interviewer.

And looking up to Heavens with a big smile, Winston delivered an answer that would fire up any team headed into a tough matchup.

“I am so happy and grateful that the Lord has blessed me to play in some snow, to be in true football weather, in Cleveland, Ohio, at Huntington Bank Field today to give him the glory. It’s a beautiful day.”

How can a person with at least a modicum of a heart not be able to get on board a message like that? And you know what? Against all the odds, the last-place Browns pulled out a last-minute win against the vaunted Steelers.

The Lord does indeed work in mysterious ways.
