Over 300 bars in San Francisco, California may soon require customers be vaccinated or present a negative COVID-19 test.

The San Francisco Bar Owner Alliance, which represents over 300 bars, released a statement regarding this new policy on Monday, set to go into effect starting Thursday, ABC 7 News - San Francisco reported.

“Any customer who wishes to remain inside our establishments show proof of vaccination or a 72-hour negative COVID19 test,” the group’s founder Ben Bleiman said.

“This decision is based solely on our need to protect our workers, customers, and their families,” the group said in a statement.

Though the health and safety of the workers was said to be the foremost consideration for this policy, the decision was also made in hopes to incentivize individuals to get vaccinated.

“We hope it might also influence some who have not yet received vaccinations to do so as soon as they are able,” the group statement said.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed (D) encouraged the move of the group in a tweet response.

Some restaurants and bars in the Bay Area already started requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test, according to CBS SF Bay Area.

Though non-vaccinated customers may either sit outside or show a 72-hour negative COVID test, the move indicates a coming wave of private businesses coercing individuals to get jabbed by the not yet-FDA approved vaccine.
