A Notre Dame professor is suing a student paper after students revealed the “catholic” professor’s pro-abortion advocacy.
Anti-life professor, Tamara Kay, teaches sociology and global-affairs at the school. Despite the fact that Notre Dame is a Catholic university and Catholics supposedly follow the Bible’s stance against abortion, Kay has made it abundantly clear that she is in support of killing the unborn.
Previously Kay, along with other professors at Notre Dame, spoke on a panel titled “Post-Roe America: Making Intersectional Feminist Sense of Abortion Bans.” The panel also discussed a pro-life law, S.B. 1, in Indiana and they agreed it “would be harmful to ‘marginalized groups,’” The National Review reported.
Following the panel, Kay reportedly told the “Irish Rover,” the school’s independent conservative student newspaper, “For me, abortion is a policy issue. And yes, my view runs afoul of Church teaching, but in other areas, my positions are perfectly aligned [with the Church].” It’s also been exposed that Kay, along with the other panel professors “offer help in obtaining both Plan B ‘morning after’ pills and ‘Plan C’ abortion pills, which are efficacious up to 12 weeks of pregnancy.”
Kay also shared numerous pro-abortion resources on her Twitter account and had a sign posted outside her office door at Notre Dame that said, “This is a SAFE SPACE to get help and information on ALL Healthcare issues and access — confidentially with care and compassion.”
Student editor Joe DeReuil wrote about Kay’s pro-baby killing views in the “Rover,” and since then, Kay denied many of the allegations. A defamation suit was filed a month after the article was released in October of 2022. Kay claimed she never knew she was being interviewed by the “Rover,” but, as the National Review reported, “the complaint fails to cite any specific examples of false statements included in the piece.”
Sounds to me like she just didn’t like that she got caught.
As a matter of fact, when the article went viral in national conservative media, Kay backtracked. She edited her Twitter profile by adding the words “I don’t speak for my employer (duh!)” and removed the signs from her office door.
In another article by the “Rover,” called “Tamara Kay Explains Herself to Notre Dame Democrats,” other details emerged where Kay again denied allegations. As an example, at one point a student asked Kay how she ended up at Notre Dame, “a Catholic university that ‘recognizes and upholds the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.’” Though Kay claimed the question was never asked, a recording of the event confirmed that it, in fact, was.

The suit claims that the two articles are “defamatory per se and establish a willful intent to portray Dr. Kay in a negative and disparaging manner consistent with a motive of bad faith and a reckless disregard for truth and falsity.” It also claims she’s been “harassed, threatened, and experienced damage to her residential property,” as well as that she’s suffered “mentally and emotionally.”
An article from “The Cut,” details more of the so called “harassment” Kay has felt and is framed as “The Holy War Against One Pro-Abortion-Rights Professor.” Luckily, “Rover” students aren’t worried about the lawsuit as they have confidence that their reporting “is true,” one told the National Review.
Time will tell how it pans out - but some advice to readers, don’t teach at Catholic schools if you don’t want to adhere to the morals said schools were founded on.
