Ocasio-Cortez Has Agreed To Debate Her Republican Economics Professor Opponent

Someone get the popcorn, because it’s about to get good.

According to the Daily Wire, self-proclaimed Democratic socialist and New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has agreed to debate her Republican opponent for the 14th District seat.

That opponent, Dr. Anthony Pappas, happens to be an Associate Professor in Economics and Finance at St. John’s University, and said he plans to challenge Ocasio-Cortez on her socialist platform. While Pappas said he hasn’t gotten nearly the media attention devoted to his Democratic counterpart (who's favored to win in the heavily blue district), his campaign did say they’re shooting for at least four debates heading into the November election.

And this first one should be interesting.

So far publicly, Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t exactly demonstrated the firmest grasp of economics or the ability to defend (or even explain) her fiscal platform – despite having majored in economics herself. From claiming that low unemployment comes from people working two jobs to misstating how many people are in the U.S. work force (by about 50 million) and being totally unable to explain how she’d pay for her socialist platform’s $40 trillion price tag, the Bronx-born (but Westchester-raised) Democrat has a penchant for tripping over some basic facts about her own fiscal promises, including how exactly she plans to give everyone free healthcare.

While the outcome remains up in the air, for now, at least the student has agreed to debate the teacher.
