Mauree Turner, who is reportedly the the first openly non-binary and Muslim person elected to the Legislature in Oklahoma, is also the first openly non-binary Muslim lawmaker censured and stripped of her placement in committees.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives on Tuesday censured the Democrat after officials claim she (yeah, I know Turner claims plural pronouns, but I’m writing about facts) impeded a law enforcement investigation into an alleged assault on a fellow House member and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper.

KOCO-TV reports:

Last week, a demonstrator protesting a bill that would ban transgender care for minors sprayed water on a state representative and slapped a state trooper who confronted them.

State House leaders said in a news release that Turner harbored the person wanted for questioning in their House office and denied law enforcement's requests to question the individual.

House Speaker Charles McCall said, "The inappropriate, and potentially criminal, actions exhibited by this member of the House were deserving of censure, and the actions taken by the House today were both measured and just."
