L.A. Councilwoman Nithya Raman is getting heat on social media for blaming Toyota for the surge in catalytic converter thefts in the L.A. area.

Raman can be seen on video during a recent town hall meeting discussing the issue.

"In this case, I think one of the things that infuriates me is that we have a company — whatever, Toyota — who makes the Prius, that essentially has a device on their cars which is super easy to remove," Raman says."It’s basically the value of a MacBook, right?"

"That is put in a place that is incredibly easy to access in your car, and the thefts related to this issue have essentially — all of the costs of that — are given to us to bear instead of them [Toyota] having to manufacture a car that actually is not so easy to be stolen. I think it's outrageous."

The Westside Current reports:

The controversial remarks came after the councilwoman opposed a motion targeting catalytic-converter thieves. The motion, which passed with an 8-to-4 vote last Tuesday makes it unlawful for any person to possess a detached catalytic converter unless they can produce valid documentation or other proof verifying they are in lawful possession.

As one commenter at the Westside Current site sarcastically noted:

Corporations are ALWAYS at fault bc the rest of us are helpless victims of soceity (sic) and our baser impulses. I mean, who can't resist stealing when there are valuable items around?

That does essentially some up leftist logic.
