Even if you follow Major League Baseball (MLB), you probably don’t know who Chad Kuhl is.

He last played for the Washington Nationals in June as a starting pitcher before being released by the team. Both he and his most recent ball club are struggling to make any positive impact on the field (the Nationals are in last place in their division), but that hasn’t stopped Kuhl from making impacts in more important areas of his life.

Since being cut, other teams have reached out to Kuhl and offered him opportunities to play elsewhere. However, the right-handed flamethrower has turned them all down for the time being because he wants to be with his wife, Amanda, who is unfortunately battling cancer.

In an Instagram post, Kuhl has said he is stepping away from baseball and remaining in the D.C. area to make sure that his wife gets the best care possible.

Some of you may be thinking, well, that’s what he should be doing. While that is true, it's not a given in today’s athletic culture for a guy to recognize that baseball, no matter how much he might enjoy it, is not of utmost importance in life.

We should applaud men like Kuhl, who behave honorably toward their wives and their families. Best of luck to him and his family, and we hope for a speedy recovery for Amanda.
