Police say a “Good Samaritan” shot and killed a gunman who opened fire inside an Indiana mall Sunday, killing three and wounding two others.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. in the food court of the Greenwood Park Mall in Greenwood, a suburb of Indianapolis. Few details have been released about the shooter, his weapons, or his motives, though it’s being reported that the suspect was a male and that he was armed with a rifle and was carrying several magazines of ammo.

Five people were shot, including a 12-year-old girl who sustained a minor back injury, per local reports. Another victim also survived and is being treated at a local hospital.

Greenwood Chief James Ison said a 22-year-old citizen carrying a legally owned handgun witnessed the shooting and shot and killed the gunman at the scene before police could respond.

This story is still developing.
