Despite being told all of the doomsday scenarios that will allegedly occur if Americans do not get serious about recycling, turning down the thermostat, and unplugging their electronic devices, only 13 percent of Americans believe they are having a negative impact on the environment.

In a poll conducted from April 14-17, YouGov asked 1,000 American adults what impact they personally feel they are making on the environment.

The poll found 50 percent of all Americans felt they have a “neutral” impact on the environment.

The poll shows 50 percent of Independents, 50 percent of Democrats, and 51 percent of Republicans all believe their own actions do not have any impact on exasperating or mitigating global warming.

Only 13 percent of Americans responded their personal impact on the environment is “negative,” including 13 percent of Democrats, 14 percent of Independents, and 11 percent of Republicans.

In fact, out of the survey of all Americans, 29 percent responded they are actually making a “positive” impact on the environment.

The poll shows 31 percent of Democrats and 31 percent of Republicans said they are personally making a “positive” impact on the environment, along with 26 percent of Independents.

The YouGov poll was conducted via Web-based interviews. The margin of error is ± 4.4% (adjusted for weighting).
