A National Guardsman reportedly died Friday while trying to save illegal aliens from drowning in the Rio Grande.
According to Fox News' LA-based national correspondent Bill Melugin, the Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the report, and says that they have recovered a body.
"Multiple sources tell me a Texas National Guard soldier has just drowned in the Rio Grande here in Eagle Pass while trying to save migrants in the water. Texas DPS confirms, and tells me a body has been recovered. I’m told a statement will be coming out soon," Melugin reported shortly after noon on Friday.

Eagle Pass is a border town in Maverick County, Texas.
More than 220,000 illegal aliens crossed the Southwest U.S. border last month, with more than 2 million crossing in 2021 - a crisis that's only expected to escalate when the Biden administration makes good on it vow to end Title 42 - a Trump-era policy allowing the immediate deportation of many migrants back to Mexico or their home countries - on May 23.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
