Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders called his Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton “unqualified” for the U.S. presidency during a rally in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Two days later, he walked back his remarks, saying, “Of course, she’s qualified.”

“On her worst day, she would be an infinitely better president than either of the Republican candidates,” Sanders said in a town hall with NBC's "Today" show Friday morning.

In a following interview with CNN, his campaign manager Jeff Weaver echoed Sanders’ watered down remarks.

“I think what he said is she’s more qualified than any of the Republicans,” said Weaver. “He has pledged to support the Democrat nominee and obviously she has as well.”

When pressed to answer “yes” or “no” whether Clinton is qualified to be president, Weaver replied, “In the narrow sense, does she have the resume for the job? Yes.”

He noted that Sanders is more qualified to be the Democratic presidential nominee given their records on issues like the war in Iraq.
