Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) has rapidly become a policy or program being eliminated across many companies, universities and organizations, because people are beginning to realize it serves no purpose.

Microsoft is the latest company to take this step, having recently announced the layoff of their entire DEI team, citing its "lack of relevance to business operations."

Business Insider reported that a Microsoft “team leader sent out an email” stating, “True systems-change work associated with DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020.”

This represents a significant shift in a world that advocates for diversity, as these companies are realizing that DEI serves no purpose in the workplace and, in some cases, may even hinder rather than help.

According to an article by News Nation, Microsoft spokesperson Jeff Jones spoke on how the company still supports inclusion.

“Our focus on diversity and inclusion is unwavering and we are holding firm on our expectations, prioritizing accountability, and continuing to focus on this work,” Jones said.

The reality is that DEI was initially created for companies and organizations to advance an agenda while portraying it as adding value, when in fact it often did not.
