Saturday, July 13, was supposed to be a fun day at a Trump rally for Corey Comperatore and his family. Instead, it ended in tragedy when he was struck and killed by a bullet fired by a gunman attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
According to an article by the Post-Gazette, Comperatore, a 50-year-old former volunteer fire chief, lived in Buffalo Township, which is in Butler County where Saturday’s rally was held.
His family members were quick to comment on how amazing a person he was, with his sister Dawn stating this on a Facebook post: “He was a hero that shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience. Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds.”
Allyson Comperatore, one of his daughters, also shared a post on Facebook about his heroics, calling him “a real-life superhero” who quickly threw her and her mother to the ground when gunfire started at the rally.
“He shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us,” she recounted.

During a press conference Sunday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro shared his thoughts on Comperatore, describing him as a "girl dad" who went to church every Sunday and loved his family and community.
"Corey died a hero," Shapiro also added.
Corey Comperatore was clearly loved by those in his community and his family, which is why it is not surprising that a GoFundMe set up for his family with a goal of $7,000 quickly raked in more than $230,000, and still climbing.
Everyone who went to the rally on Saturday was excited to share time with family and friends, but because of the evil acts of a depraved gunman, a family lost a dad, a brother, and a husband who will be missed dearly and who died a hero.
