In a world where being pro-life is often looked down upon and women are pressured to prioritize their careers over family, the value of life can feel diminished. Abortion has become increasingly seen as a fix-all solution for women.
U.S. Olympic runner Elle Purrier St. Pierre is challenging this notion. She has demonstrated that it’s possible to be both a mother and a successful athlete, having set a new women’s 5k record at the U.S. Olympic trials, which secured her a spot in the 2024 Paris Games.
In 2022, St. Pierre was experiencing pregnancy symptoms but refused to let them hinder her performance. She went on to win bronze in the 1500-meter race at the 2022 World Outdoor Championships.

According to Life News, St. Pierre discussed her journey in an interview with People Magazine:
“It was something that I thought about a lot and hoped for and wished for, and the timing is never right. It’s never perfect, but it’s going to be tough no matter what. Your life is busy and if you have a career, you’re busy and you’re driven and you’re doing big things. But this was something that Jamie and I always wanted and I think that it’s really worked out well.”
Two days after her son’s first birthday, St. Pierre clinched gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, setting a new record in the 3,000-meter run. This remarkable achievement underscores her continued success and proves that motherhood will not hinder success.
A story like this demonstrates that the notion often fed to young women — that it’s impossible to balance both a career and motherhood — is simply untrue.
