Everybody likes bacon, and if you say you don’t, you’re probably lying.

Because bacon is so popular, it should come as no surprise that there’s a baseball team in Georgia that is named after this super food.

The Macon Bacon - doesn’t that name just put a smile on your face? - is a summer league baseball team for college athletes that plays in the Coastal Plain League (CPL). Their mascot is a 7-foot strip of bacon named Kevin - this just keeps getting better - and the ballpark’s menu includes dishes and snacks like bacon steak and bacon fries.

Excuse me, that was my stomach you just heard rumbling.

A small-town baseball team that makes bacon a foundational element of everything they do? We may have just found where Heaven on Earth exists.

As if that weren’t enough, the Bacon are currently in second place in the Western Division of the CPL. You would think that a team with this level of branding genius and this amount of success would be loved by everyone.

That is, everyone except some pesky vegetarians.

A group of happiness haters who call themselves the “Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine” (PCRM) penned a letter to the team asking that they change the name. This group, which advocates for vegetarian diets and animal rights, suggested that the new nickname should be the “Macon Facon Bacon,” which is a plant-based substitute for food they think is a danger to consumers.

Why don’t you just skip the theatrics and say that you want to ruin everything that is good? How heartless do you have to be that you’d want the team to change their nickname?

Fortunately, team president Brandon Raphael made it abundantly clear on Fox and Friends that the PCRM better get used to seeing the name as it is.

“We take great pride in the Macon Bacon naming rights (which our fans named), as we get to witness the smiles and laughter from our fan base – who have supported our branding since our inception — that stems from the brand’s lighthearted and playful nature,” Raphael said. “We are a family-friendly organization and we are extremely grateful for our fans.

“With that, the Macon Bacon will be sizzling forever and will not consider a name change. Ever," he concluded.

That’s the courage and conviction we like to see.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go warm up my frying pan. Bacon is calling my name, and I will answer.
