President Donald Trump's legal team counsel Ken Starr had a few moments that were quote worthy during his opening remarks on Monday during the Senate impeachment of Trump. But, perhaps the most noteworthy comment Starr made came from a quote of someone else, which Starr used to make a point about the weaponization of impeachment.
Starr quoted a short paragraph from a January 17th Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article by opinion columnist Peggy Noonan.
Starr said the following, which includes the Noonan quote:
In her thoughtful Wall Street Journal op-ed — a week ago Saturday — Peggy Noon wrote this:
‘Impeachment has now been normalized. It won’t be a once-in-a-generation act but an every-administration act. Democrats will regret it when Republicans are handing out the pens.’
Of course, Starr and Noonan were both referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's handing out of pens on January 15th commemorating the signing of House impeachment articles despite her previous stance that impeaching a president is a "somber" occasion.
