It turns out the man who shot one police officer dead and wounded two others in Texas last month was not only a criminal, but an illegal alien who shouldn't have even been living in the U.S. in the first place.
According to local reports, the Texas Rangers said 46-year-old Jose Alfredo Perez DeLaCruz ambushed police on April 18 after they entered a residence in response to a domestic abuse call. The initial 9-1-1 call alleged that DeLaCruz had hit his wife and that others within the house were in danger. When police entered the building, authorties say DeLaCruz began firing at them, killing 31-year-old Officer Justin Putnam and wounding Officers Franco Stewart and Justin Mueller. Both wounded officers ended up in the hospital for nearly two weeks.
Police say DeLaCruz is a Mexican national who’s been living illegally in the United States since the 1990s.
