Three people were hospitalized last Sunday when they ate candy that had extremely high levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the active compound found in marijuana.

A 15-year-old special needs boy brought the candy to Hickory Valley Baptist Church in Friendsville, Tenn. After church let out, the boy, along with two 15-year-old girls and 24-year-old man, were on their way to board a bus headed home from church, Pastor Charlie Carpenter told authorities.

According to THV 11 in Little Rock, Ark., the average amount of THC found in a marijuana cigarette is 35 mg. The amount of THC in each “gummie” candy is 450 mg.

The problem is that the two teenage girls and the man ingested three “gummies” each. That means that each person ingested 1350 mg of THC. That equals out to having smoked 38.5 marijuana cigarettes… at one time!

THV 11 also reported that all three people had negative reaction to the candy including seizures, vomiting and hallucinations. All three are said to be fine, and they were all released from the hospital by Wednesday.

The special needs boy was said to have opened the package, but he apparently did not eat any of the candy.

Authorities are still trying to find out where the boy got the “medible confections.”
