In a development reflecting the ever-wider circles leftist create to demonize Christian virtues, Natural Rights, fine art, family, tradition, and respect for truth -- and which collectivists also use to silence people who promote those virtues -- the U.K.'s Daily Mail reports that a high-level British government counter-terrorism agency has claimed that to enjoy or be interested in classic Western Literature or even anti-authoritarian British television is to embrace “far right” and “white supremacist” sentiment.
Seemingly unaware of the twisted irony of their actions, tax-funded employees at England’s Research Information and Communications Unit (RICU) claim that civilians who post online recommendations of work by traditionalists such as J.R.R. Tolkien, and GK Chesterton potentially are part of a malleable, government-defined “far right” movement.
The RICU gang produced a document to alert the innocent, unsuspecting masses, and they have no problem suggesting that people read that, over these eeeevil texts.
Notes The Daily Mail:
“The taxpayer-funded document included references to The Lord Of The Rings by JRR Tolkien, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent, 1984 by George Orwell and the poems of GK Chesterton. It also referenced films including The Bridge on The River Kwai, The Great Escape and Zulu.”
And the list of “extremist red flags” includes television shows, such as the beloved 1980s anti-authoritarian spoof of Parliament, “Yes, Minister” as well as, “The Thick Of It, the 1955 epic war film The Dam Busters, and even The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.”
Perhaps these U.K. bureaucrats are mimicking Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland, who labeled as “potential domestic terror threats” parents who expressed at public school board meetings concerns over pedagogy.
Alternatively, the U.K. “terror-fighters” could be operating in this fashion because it’s an easy weapon in political circles: simply fearmonger and demonize the enemy, regardless of truth, and project one’s own fascistic modus operandi onto those one attempts to silence.
Like Garland implied about American parents and other taxpayers who might DARE speak up for tradition and their right to keep the fruits of their labor this UK gang see people who promote classic lit and television as “the other.”
“It said the works of fiction were ‘key texts’ for ‘white nationalists/supremacists’.”
Which is curious, since it represents quite a departure from the typical depiction of “white supremacists” in the U.S. – those being the tractor-hat-wearing, rifle-toting, tobacco-chewing country bumpkin who obtained fewer years of “schooling” than he or she retains of teeth.
In typical command-and-control fashion, as central authorities cast their ever-expanding net, it must include more potential opponents, work to prejudice people against them, and work to silence them before they can pose any danger to the hegemony of the state. “Yes, Minister” mocked Parliament. “The Lord of the Rings” shreds the desire for statist power and promotes additional Christian principles.
But these stand tall as utter opponents to precisely what these people in government represent.
And, in that ironic fashion that, perhaps, people such as Tolkien knew would become clear, these people reveal how the desire to control others becomes self-destructive, because the more they engage in this kind of reckless aggressive activity, the more they isolate themselves, creating “others” out of everyone.
Meaning that we can enjoy these great works – many of which warned of the dangers inherent in trying to control others – as we watch the statists close ranks in ever smaller circles. As they shut away truth. And we can be aware that, like the literature and television work, we are their targets, as well.
But truth stands on its own right, and in trying to demonize us and our interests, these “terror” teams demonize truth and the search for it.
