A Portland man and woman were arrested Saturday morning after police found they assaulted a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, according to FOX 12 Oregon.
The incident took place around 1 a.m. at Growler’s Taproom where Luke Lenzner and his wife decided to head out for a date night.
Right after arriving the couple was told the bar stopped serving drinks. As they made their way out, Lenzner says a group of people gathered outside around he and his wife - and attacked them because of his hat.
"I got mobbed by everybody that was in that bar outside. People came from the inside out - just circled me and my wife," Lenzner told FOX 12. "Surrounding me, like literally surrounding me, pushing me. I'm just trying to get through, trying to stop the person from hitting me, from taking my hat, and then I get sucker punched.”
Police say 22-year-old Leopold A. Hauser and 23-year-old Adebisi A. Okuneye assaulted Lenzner and his wife, the station reported.
Officers found the suspects a few blocks away from where they reportedly assaulted the couple.
FOX 12 Oregon also reports:
Witnesses, including the bartender, say Lenzner was the one who started it. In security footage, he can be seen pointing to his hat and saying something as he left, and witnesses say that's what started it all.
Despite this claim, police stated Lenzner never involved himself physically in the altercation.
