I must not have paid that much attention in school because, for the life of me, I can’t remember any of my teachers being so stupid as to say something this ideologically crazy. Yes, crazy. It’s a word we used to use to describe someone when they said something we couldn’t believe any rational person would ever say — in this case to their own students.

We’ve all heard the argument for arming teachers in schools in order to help add to the safety of students and faculty alike. Typically, proposed programs like this would be voluntary, and the teacher would need to go through a fair amount of training.

However, one teacher at Arroyo Grande High School in California tried to prove a point about what she seemingly believes to be the absurdity of the proposed program to her students by stating what she might be “tempted” to do to students if teachers in their school were given weapons, which is totally not how it would work. Teachers aren't going to be arbitrarily given firearms.

Take a look:

Wow! Take what she said into account again.

“How do I say this?” the teacher said at the beginning of the video. “I’ve had students before who, if I had a gun on me, I might be, like, really tempted to pull it out and shove it in their face just to…”

As you could see and hear, the teachers words became inaudible under the gasping of the students. The video was also pretty much over.

I’m not really sure what point she was trying to prove other than “guns are bad.” Giving her the benefit of the doubt, she might’ve been trying to make the point that she doesn’t want guns in school. But she might need more schooling herself if she actually thought that was a good way to go about it.

It would be interesting to hear what the teacher had to say in full context, because that 18 seconds wasn’t a very flattering look for her.
