President Donald Trump's legal team wrapped up their case Tuesday afternoon with White House Counsel Pat Cipollone taking the podium during the Senate impeachment trial.

Cipollone began his closing statement by playing clips of multiple impeachment managers and senators hypocritically speaking about the abuse of impeachment back in 1998 during the Clinton impeachment proceedings.

"You were right," Cipollone said to laughter, "but I'm sorry to say you were also prophetic."

Following the clips, Cipollone spoke about wanting both sides of the aisle to come together and ensure that the American people will be able to choose their president without ripping up the ballots from the 2016 election.

“They’ve [Democrats] repeatedly said, over and over again, a quote from Benjamin Franklin. “It’s a republic, if you can keep it.” And every time I heard it, I said to myself, ‘It’s a republic, if they let us keep it,’” Cipollone said while looking directly at the Democrat impeachment managers
