The new White House Twitter account promoting Senate confirmation of Pres. Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court warns that leaving the court with only eight justices will enable states to have laws that cater to their individual constituencies.
The new @SCOTUSnom warns:
While true, the claim raises an interesting question:
Is this actually a bad thing?
Differing state laws reflect the unique priorities of citizens of individual states regarding issues such as marijuana, taxes, and gun rights.
So, with only eight justices, the Supreme Court may not be able to change state court rulings and dictate a one-size-fits-all law for all Americans in all areas of the country - sometimes, for the time being.
So, what?
