You wouldn’t think that the Wimbledon tennis tournament would be a place where strict security measures are needed. The atmosphere is charming - almost serene - and the sport doesn’t often enrage the fans so much that they’d engage in rowdy behavior.
Nevertheless, organizers of the event are stepping up security in large part because of the prevalence of climate change activists. While they are a bunch of lunatics, they are motivated, cause a lot of trouble, and sometimes do dangerous things. For instance, last year at the Laver Cup (another prominent tennis tournament), someone protesting the use of private jets in the United Kingdom set his own arm on fire.

Earlier this week, two “Just Stop Oil” activists interrupted a cricket match. In a hilarious turn of events, one of the idiots was carried off by one of the cricket players.
So while climate activists might seem like a minor problem, they have a track record of showing up at prominent events to get their message out. Hopefully Wimbledon won’t experience any issues when the tournament begins on Monday.
