Woman Left Partially Blind After Getting an Eyeball Tattoo Blames Her Tattoo Artist

A model from Ottawa, Canada has been left partially blinded and in excruciating pain after getting an eyeball tattoo that went horribly wrong.

Catt Gallinger, 24, opted to get a scleral tattoo, which is an ink injection into the eye. The Canadian model has a long history of undergoing body modification procedures, including getting her tongue split.

After the procedure, Gallinger's eye began to leak purple ink. By the next morning, her eye had swollen completely shut, according to a Facebook post. The swelling was apparently due to an eye infection she developed from the procedure.

In the weeks since the botched procedure, Gallinger has been posting new developments as she copes with the consequences of getting the tattoo. Her eye still remains swollen, and doctors have notified Gallinger that she may face permanent blindness in the tattooed eye.

The model is now warning others -- probably unnecessarily -- to be wary of getting their eyeballs tattooed and to do their research, saying, "I am NOT sharing this with you to cause trouble, I am sharing this to warn you to research who you get your procedures by as well as how the procedure should be properly done."

Gallinger's now accusing her boyfriend, who reportedly gave her the tattoo, of misstating his ability to do the job and also noted that she will be seeking legal action against him.

"The procedure was done by someone who told me that they were experienced," she claimed in a public video online. "It is my fault that I believed him. It is my fault that I gave in when they repetitively asked me to my eye."

In a Time Magazine interview, Gallinger claimed that her boyfriend made several mistakes during the process. She noted that he did not use any saline, which might have prevented infection, and used an oversized needle when the procedure calls for a much smaller size.

Recently, Gallinger explained that she is in "excruciating" pain and that she will have to undergo surgery to remove the excess ink from her eyeball.
