Hardball host Chris Matthews, and Salon Editor-at-Large (and author of What's the Matter With White People?) Joan Walsh criticized the Republican Party for pandering to its "backwards" base of white, Christian, conservatives. At least they didn't say "urban," then this would be predjudiced.

President Obama took a passing swipe at Michigan's new right-to-work law during his speech in the state today. He referenced the "good, new, union, jobs," a sign of support for unions which have been fighting attempts to make Michigan a right-to-work state.

CNN Newsroom anchor Ted Rowlands accused Republicans of advocating the destruction of all unions in a segment on Michigan's right-to-work law entitled "Unions Brace for Crippling Blow." Interestingly, Rowlands never bothered to ask the union supporter he had on earlier if Democrats had any political incentive to support one of their biggest sources of donations.

Joe Scarborough characterized conservative talk radio hosts as cowardly bullies. He argued that Republican candidates should punch them in the face, and stated that he hopes Republicans will keep the conservative base in line.

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham argued that Republicans should wait to compromise on revenue by capping deductions unless the Democrats offer entitlement reforms.  He then stated that the Republicans will use the debt ceiling as leverage to force President Obama into accepting entitlement reform.  He also said that President Obama should “man up” to take on entitlements.

 MSNBC contributor Karen Finney used the Javon Belcher murder-suicide to attack Republicans. Finney stated that the Belcher tragedy couldn't be separated from "the Republicans in Congress who essentially are sending a message that it's OK to beat up certain kinds of women."

The US Supreme Court has decided to hear cases challenging California’s Proposition 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.  It is believed that the cases might lead to a federal ruling on whether same-sex marriage is a right. NBC News’ Pete Williams reports that he believes the fact that the Supreme Court took the Proposition 8 case is a sign that conservative members believe the proposition…
