On Thursday, MRC President David Bozell joined The Mark Levin Show, one of the country’s top syndicated radio programs with 12 million weekly listeners, for a lively chat about media bias and cultural issues.
Levin focused on the media-Democrat alignment, asking, “In all your years doing this, have you seen much of a gap between the Democrats and the media in terms of what the media report, what the media prioritize? I mean, I don’t think there is much of a gap, is there, especially in the last 24 hours?” Bozell responded, referring to the Minnesota school shooter, “when you have Gavin Newsom and the mayor, Mayor Frey, attacking prayer, and then, in lockstep, Jen Psaki, Michael Steele, and Dana Bash do the same thing — attacking prayer — I mean, that is a new low.” He added that the left-wing media ecosystem seemed to coordinate: “Some interesting talking points went out across the left-wing ecosystem: ‘Let’s go attack prayer.’”
Bozell also criticized the media’s fixation on trivial details: “You would think that the country would sit down and have a discussion about gun control. I really do think that this could happen if the media reported this tragedy, and tragedies like it, soberly, accurately, patiently. Instead, they’re tripping all over themselves as to what to call this guy or girl. Robert or Robin, and so that’s what they’re fixated on.” He added, “Jake Tapper, for an hour, just called him ‘the shooter,’ not even addressing the name for an hour on CNN the other day.” Bozell highlighted the media’s selective coverage of illegal immigration, noting their tendency to ignore certain stories while heavily promoting others. For example, he pointed out that a deadly crash involving a Florida trucker received zero minutes from the networks. At the same time, “Abrego-Garcia, the so-called ‘Maryland Man,’ got 17 additional minutes from the broadcast networks just over the weekend.”
