Envoy Urges UNSC to Take Steps to Prevent ‘Catastrophe’ in Afghanistan

At a U.N. Security Council meeting on Friday the U.N. special envoy for Afghanistan urged the international community to take steps “to prevent Afghanistan from descending into a situation of catastrophe so serious that it would have few, if any, parallels this century.” But despite strong words from individual members, the council issued no joint statement of condemnation of the Taliban’s actions.
