Earlier this week, Fox covered another reminder of why it's important to deport illegal aliens who have committed serious crimes like DUI before they injure or kill someone.
On Monday's Fox & Friends, co-host Ainsley Earhardt read a brief on the story of an illegal alien from Mexico -- Humberto Munoz Gatica -- who was allowed to stay in the country by the Barack Obama administration and went on to commit crimes but was never deported:
Officials arresting an ICE fugitive in California after he allegedly killed a 71-year-old man in a DUI hit-and-run. Federal law enforcement sources say the Mexican national has been living in the U.S. illegally for over a decade. He was initially arrested in 2011 for being in the country illegally but then ignored a notice to appear in court after being released under the Obama administration.
A bit later in the show, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons tied in California being a sanctuary state:
Criminal illegal aliens will go to locations where they know that local police or state police won't turn them over to us. And you look at this case. You have somebody who's been here since 2011, identified in 2012. And yet he's still out there committing crime. Had we taken action before, that victim of that DUI crash might still be with us today.
On the same day's Fox News at Night, host Trace Gallagher also covered the story:
Meantime, here in Southern California, DUI hit-and-run suspect killed a Southern California man. He is illegal -- in this country illegally. ... Arrested for entering the country, Meagan McCarthy, illegally in 2011; released with order to appear and never showed; arrested for robbery in California in 2011, pleads to grand theft; ordered deported in absentia in 2012; arrested on suspicion of DUI in fatal hit-and-run in California on Friday.
He added: "I mean, if you asked Governor Gavin Newsom in California, 'What about this?' he'd say, 'Ah, you're trying to score cheap political points.' This is real -- somebody is dead tonight because of somebody who should not have been here."

TRACE GALLAGHER: Meantime, here in Southern California, DUI hit-and-run suspect killed a Southern California man. He is illegal -- in this country illegally. Put this up on the screen. Look at this.
I mean, if you asked Governor Gavin Newsom in California, "What about this?" he'd say, "Ah, you're trying to score cheap political points." This is real -- somebody is dead tonight because of somebody who should not have been here.
MEAGAN McCARTHY, FORMER SAN BERNARDINO COUNTRY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY: Absolutely. Well, when you have broadcast to the entire world that we care more about illegal immigrants and political policy than American lives, this is what happens. We have laws on the books to protect American citizens from heinous crimes.
A DUI that claimed the life of somebody, that's a preventable crime. He should never have been here let alone -- that's what happens when you have these DAs and these judges that give repeat criminals just a slap on the wrist -- say, "Don't do it again -- be a good boy." Then, they go out and kill someone. So when are we going to stand up for American citizens and say, "We will prioritize your safety -- we're going to protect our law enforcement officers. If you don't like it, get out."

LAWRENCE JONES: I want to get your comment on this latest offender who dodged deportation for years, and then he get caught with a DWI after killing a man in a hit-an-run, he's been in here every since 2012 -- 2011, I'm sorry, he entered in, but he had a deportation (order) in 2012. A long wrap sheet right there -- grand theft auto. How does a guy like this stay in the country? ... And then he escalates to DUI, killing someone.
TODD LYONS, ACTING ICE DIRECTOR: You know, and that's the scary part, Lawrence, about these sanctuary jurisdictions, right? Criminal illegal aliens will go to locations where they know that local police or state police won't turn them over to us. And you look at this case. You have somebody who's been here since 2011, identified in 2012. And yet he's still out there committing crime. Had we taken action before, that victim of that DUI crash might still be with us today.
But that's the issue that we're trying to focus on is the fact that when you work with ICE, tragedies like this happen. And I really wish that elected officials would sit down and talk to Angel families, kind of like with Operation Midway Blitz that we have dedicated to Katie Abraham who lost her life to a DUI crash for a guy who wasn't supposed to be here. Those are the victims we're fighting for every day, and it's really sad that politicians won't let us do our law enforcement mission.
