In 2025, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel and his summer guest hosts told a measly 87 jokes making fun of liberals over 156 episodes, or about one liberal joke every two episodes. This year, the trend has continued with Wednesday’s show being the seventh of the year, but the first in which Kimmel told his first two jokes about liberals and even then they were in the context of lamenting that President Trump has defunded PBS.

After playing a clip of a House hearing involving his nemesis, FCC chairman Brenden Carr, Kimmel quipped, “Meanwhile, Fredo's godfather, Donald Corleone, has also been working hard to kill PBS. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is the organization that funds PBS, voted to dissolve itself last week after Trump pushed Congress to cut off funding which led a lot of people to believe that PBS was going off the air, which it is not. Poor Oscar the Grouch is now living in an actual garbage can, but PBS is still with us.”

Kimmel then introduced a clip of a satirical PBS ad, “The PBS social media team has been responding to a lot of posts like this that say, "After 58 years PBS has officially shut down," with posts like this: "Hey, uh, so actually, we're still here." And their PR team just put out a video to let everyone know that even though the situation is bleak, they're still going.”
