In response to Vladimir Putin’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday announced that Kyiv was applying for “accelerated accession to NATO,” arguing that Ukraine and the transatlantic alliance were already “de facto allies.”
